The annual CEDS Update provides a detailed analysis of the region’s population, labor force, employment, and per capita personal income as well as a review of changes in key economic sectors. This section provides an at-a-glance review of these current economic indicators.
Please note that the indicators provided are on a regional basis, and, where possible, on a sub-regional basis. Because of the range in size and small population base for most communities in Southwest Alaska, local conditions will vary significantly from regional or sub-regional indicators.
Per capita income means how much an individual receives, in monetary terms, in a given year. Personal income is probably thought of as wages earned from jobs. Wages are actually only one portion of total income, though on average, a significant majority. Personal income is the sum of net earnings, rental income, personal dividend income, personal interest income, and personal current transfer (government) receipts.
