Port infrastructure funding webinar – Thursday, April 23, 2026

SWAMC will host a free information session on the recently announced FY 2026 Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIDP) funding opportunity on Thursday, April 23 from 11:00 AM to Noon via Zoom. Aurah Landau, senior financial consultant with HDR, Inc., will provide insights into this competitive funding opportunity, drawing on her proven record supporting Alaskan tribes, communities, non-profits, and agencies in obtaining grants for critical community infrastructure.
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) recently announced it will make $488 million available to fund improvements at ports across the nation. Roughly 25 percent of funding is intended for smaller ports and projects. Rural or smaller communities may also qualify for higher federal cost shares.
The aim of the PIPD is to strengthen the movement of goods through the nation’s ports by investing in infrastructure that enhances safety, efficiency, and reliability. Eligible applicants include port authorities, state and local governments, Tribal entities, and other public agencies, with funding available for a wide range of projects such as terminal upgrades, intermodal connections, emissions reduction efforts, and climate resilience improvements.
This year’s program continues to emphasize national freight priorities, including supply chain resilience, innovation, and economic competitiveness.
Since its inception in 2019, four projects in the SWAMC region have received PIPD awards: Cold Bay, Dillingham, Kodiak, and Saint Paul. These projects range from $11.0 million to $43.0 million.
